Creative Edmonton presents: Heroes vs. Villains

Creative Edmonton, our city’s go-to pop-up market specialists, will be holding their next event on Friday, June 5th from 6:30pm to 11:30pm at MacEwan University (Building 6, 10700 104 Avenue). The Heroes vs. Villains market will feature a number of local vendors providing samples and selling their wares, live music, and a Heroes vs. Villains contest, in which contestants will test their skills in a series of superhero-themed challenges (and in which yours truly is competing).

Market-style events are Creative Edmonton’s specialty, often with a particular theme that dictates the types of vendors that will be present. For example, last year’s Brewfest market featured a handful of breweries, amongst artists, creatives, local stores, and restaurants.

“Creative Edmonton’s vision is to connect with their community and bring artists and businesses together,” says Saniya Ghalehdar, Director of Creative Edmonton. “[We’re] made up of a group of community organizers that aim to support local causes. We create market style events to showcase local artists, businesses, and musicians. For us, it’s about giving our vendors multiple opportunities to shine, for musicians to have venues to perform at, and for youth in the Downtown core to get involved.”

With the growing popularity of comic books and superheroes in mainstream media, the Creative Edmonton team decided to make this next event to reflect a comic-con theme. The Heroes vs. Villains market will feature pop culture and other related goodies, with vendors such as Geekspot.caDark Knits Boutique, Quantum Comics & Collectibles, Black Sheepz Art, and Handmade by Rishshells, along with a number of heroes and villains-inspired concession items.

“A lot of our guests had asked us to choose this theme for one of our events,” says Saniya. “We have a wide variety of vendors and they will have things like art, jams, baked goods, handmade leggings, plants, comic books, superhero-themed items, and so much more! We will also have beer tastings, a video game hub, a full service restaurant, drink specials, contests, giveaways, a Hip Hop show, and lots of other amazing things.”

Tickets to the Heroes vs. Villains market are $10 and available through Eventbrite.
